Viewpoints
Everyone has their own unique viewpoint on a problem. It is difficult to put ourselves into other people's shoes and see the problem from their perspective, but this can lead us to find better solutions to the problem.
Think of a problem that you currently have that involves at least one other person. Get out some paper and write down a description of the problem from each person's point of view. Show each description to the person it corresponds with and have them comment on your accuracy. This exercise is a good way to see a problem from different perspectives and understand where the other people are coming from.
Word of the Day : Sanctimony
sanc-ti-mo-ny
noun :: A show or expression of feelings or beliefs one does not actually hold.
"Nobody listened to the sanctimonious environmentalist who arrived at the conference in an SUV."
Neurogenesis
Neurogenesis is the process by which new neurons are created in the brain. A common myth is that adults are losing some number of neurons every second and that there is nothing we can do about it because the brain cannot create new neurons. While it's true that most neurogenesis happens in childhood and adolescence, adults do continue to make new neurons throughout life.
Much of this adult neurogenesis occurs in the hippocampus which is the key area for learning and memory. Because of this, the hippocampus experiences very little age related shrinkage as compared to other parts of brain.
It's useful to note that stress can inhibit neurogenesis and physical exercise can improve the brain's ability to create new neurons.
Worry Time
Worry is one of the most potent antidotes to creativity. In order to fully immerse yourself in the creative process, you must be able to clear your mind of all worries.
One technique is to postpone your worries to a specified time at the end of the day. Perhaps you could stop at the park on the way home from work. Or maybe you could settle into your comfy chair after dinner. Wherever and whenever you set your time, try to make it a daily routine. This will get you in the habit of postponing all your worries until the designated time.
During your worry time, give yourself permission to review all the frustrations, irritations or other worries that you have had during the day. Use this time to try to find resolutions or steps that you can take to resolve some of your anxieties. Once your time is up, put your worries aside and trust in your subconscious mind to keep working on the problem for tomorrow's session.
